I don't have a lathe, so I locked my Dremel in place on its stand, and gently rotated the dowelling against the sanding bit. I then used a hacksaw to cut small channels into the wood, which I filled with white epoxy to simulate some sort of inlay. The skull isn't as anatomically accurate as I would have hoped, but acceptable for my first attempt at carving. After this I formed the wand body out of walnut dowelling. I started with rough forms, and slowly refined them. Using a my Dremel, and some small files, I carved a separate piece of walnut into the skull shape. When my brother-in-law gave me a selection of American Walnut off-cuts, I was finally prompted to make a start. I put this off for a long time, as I lacked the confidence to tackle it! ![]() I decided that I'd make my own Death Eater wand, with a small carved skull at the handle end.
